An earthwork bank of a possible former trackway or field field boundary of potential medieval date is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Burnhaies. The northwest to southeast aligned earthwork bank is parallel to an additional earthwork bank to the west, although since this is depicted on the Bradninch parish tithe map, was not transcribed as part of this survey. The two earthworks are spaced approximately 8m apart, although taper slightly together towards their southeast extent. It is possible that the two banks formed part of double-banked trackway or holloway, providing access into the fields from the road to the north, although the eastern of the two banks appears to have fallen out of use by the time of the parish tithe map. Alternatively, the earthwork bank may represent the remains of a relict medieval field boundary. The earthworks remain visible as probable earthwork banks on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2010.
