HER Number:MDV107612
Name:Drainage Ditches North-West of Higher Houndaller Farm

Summary

Two parallel linear earthwork ditches, circa 1 metre in width, are visible on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s and on images derived from Lidar data captured between 2005 and 2010. They are interpreted as post-medieval or modern drainage ditches, perhaps associated with a field boundary. The earthworks are very likely to survive.

Two parallel linear earthwork ditches, circa 1 metre in width, are visible on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s and on images derived from Lidar data captured between 2005 and 2010. They are aligned cross-contour and were probably intended for land drainage. The ditches are well defined on the 1940s photographs, suggesting that they had been maintained or constructed relatively recently at this point and are likely to be of post-medieval or modern date. They may have flanked a former field boundary, although there is no evidence of a substantial earthwork bank. The earthworks are very likely to survive, although they have been truncated by the motorway.
