A quarry of probable 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, at Mutterton. The semi-circular shaped quarry pit measures approximately 37m in length by 13m in width and abuts, and so post-dates, an historic field boundary along its southern edge first depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. The quarry pit also appears to be first symbolised on this map and it remains visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs up until 1989, although its survival after this date is unclear.
