Field name: the lynch at farwood down. Negative on aph. Vis=estimated -/-/1972(s+m) the land was fareweia in domesday. It was then the "lands called farway in southleigh", held by drogo of the bishop of coutances. Before the conquest it was held by ailmar. The land was later granted to quarr abbey on the isle of wight. Early descents given. In the hundred rolls of edward i, in 1275, it is stated that the abbot of quarr then held a ploughland here. A document of 1288 also proves that the land was still ploughed in the late 13th century.(reichel).

Field called Lynch on Tithe Map/Tithe Apportionment (Tithe Apportionment No. 2040). May refer to lynchet, or cultivation terrace of medieval date. Not visible on 1947 aerial photo. Documentary references to ploughland here in 1275 and 1288. SMR records that the land was 'Farweia' in Domesday, recorded as 'lands called Farway in Southleigh' . However, on the Tithe Map the field is shown within an outlier of Colyton parish.
