Full description
Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.
'Lower Hill Town' is depicted on the Tithe map, 801 on the Peter Tavy apportionment: 'House and Lawn'. The farmstead has a simple layout of three buildings. The large, roughly square farmhouse at the south-east, and two buildings to the north-north-west, one of which is a large L-shaped structure.
Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.
The late 19th century historic map shows the farmhouse and the L-shaped building to the north but the third building is gone.
Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.
The early 20th century historic map matches the late 19th century edition.
Gover, J. E. B. + Mawer, A. + Stenton, F. M., 1931, The Place-Names of Devon: Part One, 233 (Monograph). SDV1312.
Hilltown is documented as 'Hill Towne' in 1720.
White, P., 2013, Previously Unsurveyed Dartmoor Historic Farmsteads (Un-published). SDV352501.
Included on list. No further information included.
Ordnance Survey, 2014, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV355681.
'Hillbridge Farm' on the modern mapping shows a number of modern buildings have been added to the farm following the early 20th century map depiction. The two older buildings appear to have been retained however.
