The quarries are symbolised as areas of vegetation on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

Quarry pits of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1967 onwards, to the southwest of Crosslands. The three adjacent earthworks measure up to 38m in length and are first partly symbolised as areas of vegetation on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. They remain visible as earthworks on recent digital images derived from Lidar data captured between 2005 and 2010, with the eastern of the three pits also depicted on Master Map 2014.
