Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Depicted on the Tithe Map as a continuous row of dwellings running from the rear of the terrace on Silver Street in a north-easterly direction, then fronting the eastern end of Silver Street. No individual divisions depicted.

The late 19th century historic map shows the terrace and largely matches the Tithe Map, although the separate properties are depicted and Sherwell Mill is now depicted at the south-western end of the terrace.

Sherwell Court - unlisted
Sherwell Court, the row of cottages that lines the former entrance to Sherwell Mill, are very attractive and appear to pre-date the mill as they are on the tithe map. Together with the terrace on Silver Street they have great group value and are a cherished part of historic Buckfastleigh.

The modern map shows the main section of the terrace. Remains the same as the historic map depictions but the north-eastern end (that fronted onto Silver Street has now gone and the range of buildings is now separate from the Bridge Street buildings (9 and 10).
