The water meadow is partly defined as a drain and sluice on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

A possible water meadow system of probable 19th century date is visible as a series of earthwork ditches on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the south of the former farmstead of Higher Moor. The system occupies an area of approximately 3.27 hectares of gentle south facing slope on the north side of the River Lowman. It is visible as a series of largely fragmented curvilinear earthwork ditches intersected by a series of linear northwest to southeast aligned ditches or drains, also partly defined on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. It is largely unclear, however, how this possible system may have operated, or what components simply acted as land drainage. The system does appear to be fed by a drain that runs downslope from the former farmstead, approximately 140m to the northeast. More extensive water meadow systems have also been recorded along the River Lowman valley to the east. The site of the water meadow has been completely levelled and developed for residential housing on aerial photographs of 1994.
