HER Number:MDV109669
Name:Site of Former Fish Cellars, Burgh Island

Summary

A range of structures are depicted within Plots 1091 and 1092 on the 1843 Bigbury tithe map. These are recorded as 'Cellars' and 'Garden' on the accompanying tithe apportionment which likely suggest they were used as fish cellars. By the time of the First Edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, the larger of the structures appear to have been parlty demolished and are now labelled 'Pilchard Inn'. On the Second Edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey map of between 1904-06, only two structures remain around the original site.
