Manor mill, a former water-powered corn mill. Nothing remains of the building, but an old photograph shows cob and thatch structure. Water supplied by leat from weir, now washed away, below sidcliffe house. There is documentary evidence of its existence from 1281 to the 19th century (phillips + wilson).
Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV79.
Site seems too high above river and would have required excessively long leat. Ta field names give no indication of former existence (ea).
Bodman, M., 1998, Water-Powered Sites in Devon (Report - non-specific). SDV305931.
Lords of the manor and mill owners were the dean and chapter of exeter cathedral in 1281. In 1301 the mill was 'to be made new' and in 1330 new mill stones were installed. The mill was mentioned again in 1690 and 1775 (bodman).
