The remains of possible post-medieval to 19th century banks made for tree planting and drainage are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1946 and digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2012 to the immediate north-west of Great Bowley.
Their alignment is roughly north-west to south-east ,cross-contour and aligned on a natural drainage hollow, and they are interpreted as fruit tree planting banks of probable post-medieval to 19th century date that were probably made to enhance drainage within an orchard.
The banks do not correspond with any orchards depicted on the Tithe Map for Cadbury or the Ordnance Survey 25 inch map. They might therefore be interpreted as evidence of an orchard that passed out of use prior to the 1840s or simply as evidence for agricultural drainage.
A relict boundary bank and ditch of possible medieval origin define the southern edge of the improved area. The possible drainage ditches and relict boundary are both cut by an open ditch of modern date in 1946.
