Possible orchard banks of post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Lower Mallocks Farm. The earthworks are east to west aligned and occupy an area of approximately 1.30 hectares of gentle northwest facing slope, within a single plot to the north of the farm. The site of the possible orchard is not, however, symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, suggesting that either the orchard was grubbed up prior to the 1880’s-90’s or the banks exercised an alternative function, such as improvement ridge and furrow. The earthworks are visible on aerial photographs up until 1965, and appear to have been levelled after this date.
