The remains of ridges probably made for fruit tree planting and improved drainage in a small orchard of probable post-medieval to 20th century date were visible on aerial photographs as earthwork banks to the east of Burraton House, Broadclyst.
The ridges corresponded to an orchard depicted on the Ordnance Survey first edition 25inch map and its establishment therefore predates the 1880s. The orchard remained planted in 1967, with the tree planting banks clearly visible through the tree cover. The orchard has since been turned over to arable cultivation cleared and the earthwork banks levelled.
