Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the west of Bridge Farm. Orchards are depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, although by 1946, aerial photographs show that the orchard trees have been largely grubbed up, leaving a series of parallel east to west aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 2 hectares of gentle west facing slope, within three adjacent plots depicted on the First Edition OS map. The earthwork banks are visible on aerial photographs up until 1965 and appear to have been completely levelled by 1989. The Ordnance Survey 2015 MasterMap shows that the site of the former orchards has been almost completely developed for residential.
Ordnance Survey, 2015, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV357601.
The site of the former orchard has been almost completely developed for residential housing.
