Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1963 and 1966, at Upham Cottage. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1946 show that the orchard remains covered in fruit trees, although by 1963, these have been completely grubbed out, leaving a series of parallel northeast to southwest aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy a small irregular shaped plot of approximately 0.18 hectares of gentle northwest facing slope an overlying the site of a quarry or extraction pit. The orchard banks have been completely levelled on aerial photographs of 1985 and the site developed.
