A buried ditched feature was visible on aerial photographs of 1984 and 1992 as a curvilinear cropmark on east-facing slopes at Bowls Cross, Poltimore. The more regular north-west to south-east aligned eastern end of the cropmark probably corresponds in part with a field boundary marked on the Tithe Map for Poltimore, and may relate to a phase of post-medieval enclosure. The more curvilinear and roughly west to east aligned western section is not depicted, and might therefore be evidence of a section of field boundary that passed out of use prior to the 1840s. The curvilinear nature of the cropmark might support the interpretation that it is evidence of a former field boundary of medieval origin.
