Possible former field boundaries of potential medieval date are visible as a series of earthwork ditches on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Rockbeare Manor. The earthworks comprise four parallel and slightly curvilinear earthworks which are northeast to southwest aligned, which are intersected by a shorter northwest to southeast aligned earthwork ditch. The earthworks occupy an area of approximately 3.67 hectares of gentle west facing slope. They appear to form part of a relict medieval field system, although if so, the layout of the field boundaries by the time of the Parish Tithe Map of approximately 1838-48 had evidently undergone fundamental re-organisation and bear little similarity to those recorded here. An alternative interpretation of the earthworks representing a series of drainage ditches is also possible, although is less likely given their cross-contour alignment. The earthworks remain visible as a series of ditches on Lidar-derived images of 2005.
