Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1966 onwards, at Carradale Farm. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1946 show that the site of the orchard is covered with fruit trees, although by 1966, the trees have been completely grubbed up, leaving a series of parallel north to south aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 0.74 hectares of moderate south facing slope, within a single plot depicted on the First Edition OS map. The orchard banks remain clearly visible on Lidar-derived images of 2005.
