A cropmark which has possibly formed over an infilled ditch or pit of uncertain date is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 and 1947, to the south of Parsons Lane. The well-defined, circular cropmark measures approximately 17m in diameter and is sited on relatively low lying ground along an offshoot of the Clyst Valley, on the southern side of a stream. Because of its location, this ring-ditch like feature is less likely to be of prehistoric date, but is perhaps of more recent date, such as the levelled earthwork remains of a former military site of Second World War date. For example, a searchlight battery and anti-aircraft battery are recorded in close proximity to the northwest and west, respectively. It is also possible the cropmark is agricultural in origin, possibly caused by a circular cattle feed, for example. The circular cropmark was not visible on other aerial photographs made available to the survey.
