Earthwork banks of probable 18th-19th century date are visible on aerial photographs of 1945 onwards, within the former Upper Moor Plantation. The earthworks, which are north to south aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.17 hectares, may represent the remains of 18th-19th cultivation or woodland banks providing improved drainage and increased soil depth within an area depicted as marshland and plantation on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’-90’s. The earthwork banks remain visible on aerial photographs up until 1957, although have been completely levelled and the site developed as part of the Sowton Industrial Estate on aerial photographs of 1988.
