A number of similar such features are depicted in the vicinity here on the First Edition Ordnance Map of approximately 1838-48.

A possible former quarry or gravel pit of likely post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards, on Raymond’s Hill. The elongated and slightly curvilinear earthwork measures approximately 30m in length by 7m in width and is located in an area where a number of similar such features are depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Map of approximately 1838-48. The earthwork pit is visible on aerial photographs of 1976, although its survival after this date is unclear. Digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2014 do, however, show the site of the former quarry or gravel pit as an area of bare ground and earthworks may still be visible.
