Summary

Probable orchard banks of post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Venn House. They remain partly visible as earthwork banks on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2010. The earthwork are less likely to represent an area of ridge and furrow.

The site of the orchard is partly symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of approximately 1838-48.

Probable orchard banks of post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Venn House. The site of the orchard is first symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, although by 1946, aerial photographs show that the orchard trees have been almost completely grubbed out, leaving a series of parallel northwest to southeast aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 0.97 hectares of southeast facing slope, within a single rectilinear shaped plot depicted on historical mapping. The orchard banks remain partly visible as earthwork banks on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2010.
