Three quarries or extraction pits were visible as shallow and irregularly shaped earthwork hollows on the north facing slopes of a combe overlooking Wylam House Farm to the north. Two were most clearly visible on aerial photographs of 1892 onwards and the third, northernmost pit was recorded from digital images derived from lidar data.
Former gravel and marl pits of probable post medieval to 19th century date were commonly recorded by the survey, but it is possible that the pits were earlier in date. The pits were not depicted on the Tithe Map for Combe Raleigh (previously a parish in two parts) or the Ordnance Survey 25inch First Edition map, and had therefore probably passed out of use by the 1840s.
The pits might be the same as those recorded in MDV114110.
