Two possible former small extractive pits of probable post-medieval to 19th century date were visible on aerial photographs of 1982 as oval earthwork pits circa 25 and 30 metres in length on the south-east facing slopes to the east of Shaugh Farm, Luppitt Parish. The relict earthworks, plus a third smaller and shallower pit were also visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The smaller pit had probably cut into the earthwork remains of an earlier field boundary.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pits or quarries depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map, and therefore probably predate the 1880s.
