Summary

A large curvilinear anomaly and several linear anomalies were recorded during a geophysical survey undertaken as part of a programme of archaeological works along the route of a gas pipeline. A single undated ditch was subsequently revealed in an evaluation trench.

Area 16. No. 83. A large curvilinear positive anomaly which may be associated with the barrow to the west. The anomaly is generally between 4 and 7 metres wide. It is relatively strongly enhanced and could relate to a cut feature such as a ditch. Several other positive linear anomalies were also recorded (84, 85, 86) within the arc of 83 for which an archaeological origin cannot be ruled out.

Site 31. Springfield, Ugborough. Several linear anomalies were identified by geophysical survey although nothing with much clarity due to magnetic disturbances. The plot was investigated with a trial trench but the subsequent excavation was undertaken a little way to the south.
