Summary
A small pit, probably a former extractive pit of post-medieval to 19th century date, was visible on aerial photographs and digital images derived from lidar data as an earthwork on the north facing slopes to the north of Heathstock, Stockland parish. It is one of at least 8 similar pits within an area of circa 400 metres.

A small pit, probably a former extractive post-medieval to 19th century date, was visible on aerial photographs as a circular earthwork circa 8 metres in diameter, on the north facing slopes to the north of Heathstock, Stockland parish.
The earthwork did not correspond with any pit or quarry depicted on the Tithe Map for Stockland or the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map. The extractive use of the pit had therefore probably ceased prior to the 1840s. The pit remained clearly visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data and therefore probably survives as an earthwork
