A possible former extractive pit of probable post-medieval to 19th century date was visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and digital images derived from lidar data as a roughly oval earthwork up to circa 42 metres across on the south-west-facing slopes west of Mansfield Farm, Stockland parish.
The earthworks did not correspond with any pits or quarries depicted on the Tithe Map for Stockland or the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map. The extractive use of the pit had therefore probably ceased prior to the 1840s. The pit remained clearly visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data and therefore probably survives as an earthwork.
