Two irregular earthwork pits, between 42 and 27 metres in maximum visible extent, are visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 and aerial photographs taken from 1982 onwards. The plot of land in which they are located is depicted as orchard on the Tithe map, and some orchard trees are still depicted, although not within a specific land parcel, on the early-20th century OS map. This suggests that extraction pre-dated the mid-19th century, and that in common with many similar pits in the East Devon area, the sheltered ground was then reused for fruit tree cultivation.
