Full description
Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.
The earthwork does not correspond with any depicted field boundaries.
Turner, S.C., 2005 - 2006, Devon Historic Landscape Characterisation Mapping (Cartographic). SDV349122.
The earthwork falls within an area in which fields were probably first enclosed with hedge-banks during the middle ages.
Bluesky International, 2016, LiDAR DTM data (0.5m resolution) Blackdown Hills and East Devon AONBs: 3 transects, LIDAR ST1904 Bluesky International DTM 04-MAY-2016 (Cartographic). SDV359714.
A broad curvilinear earthwork bank was visible.
Ordnance Survey, 2016, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV359352.
Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.
A low curvilinear bank was visible on digital images derived from lidar data, as an earthwork roughly 12 metres wide and up to 190 metres long, on the west facing slopes of the Otter Valley, north of Yard Farm, Upottery parish. The bank is interpreted as the remains of a former field boundary. It does not correspond with any boundary depicted as a boundary on the Tithe Map for Upottery and falls within a field pattern characterised by HLC as potentially of medieval origin. The earthwork is therefore interpreted as a field boundary of possibly medieval origin that passed out of use prior to the 1840s.
