Full description

The depression is situated mostly within two orchard plots (Plots 26 and 44).

A large irregular shaped earthwork depression circa 80m by 35m is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The plot corresponds with an orchard on the Tithe Map and partially corresponds with a depicted 'Old Marl Pit' on the First Edition OS map. A pond is depicted in the southern part of the depression on modern maps. The depression is interpreted as an extractive pit of post-medieval origin, part of which ceased operation prior to circa 1840, and part of which ceased operation by the end of the 19th century.
