A large irregular shaped earthwork depression circa 55m across is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The depression is situated with a plot recorded as 'Marl Pit Orchard' in the Tithe Survey. The depression also corresponds with a curving field boundary of an orchard plot depicted on the First Edition OS map and subsequent historic and modern maps. The depression is interpreted as a marl pit of post-medieval to 19th century origin, that ceased extraction prior to circa 1840, after which it was established as an orchard.
