Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.
A former extractive pit circa 60 by 23 metres in size was visible an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1947 and 1982.
The visible earthwork is bisected by a field boundary that defines the Awliscombe and Buckerell parish boundary. The pit partly corresponds with a small copse depicted in this location on the OS First Edition 25 inch map on the Awliscombe side of the boundary. This supports the interpretation that the extractive pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century.
