Narrow ridges were visible as low parallel earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946. The visible earthwork banks were spaced up to circa 9 metres apart and crossed the contours of the slope over an area of circa 0.3 hectares.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any orchard depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey, but might have been an extension of an orchard shown immediately to the south. The earthworks are therefore interpreted as evidence of an orchard that had passed out of use by circa 1840.
The dominant orientation of the banks was probably south-west to north-east, but they appear to have been cut by ditches on a second, north-south axis, possibly to improve drainage after the orchard was cleared.
The banks cannot be seen on images derived from lidar data and have probably been levelled.
