Summary

The remains of ridges made for tree planting and improved drainage probably of post-medieval to mid-19th century date, was visible as low parallel earthwork banks on aerial photographs of the 1940s on the west-facing slopes north-west of Lower Westcott.

The remains of parallel ridges were visible as low earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946. The plot in which the banks were visible was depicted as an orchard on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map and was listed as Plot 62, Clack Orchard on the Tithe map and apportionments for Talaton.
The earthworks are therefore interpreted as the remains of banks made for fruit tree planting and improved orchard drainage, dating possibly from the post-medieval period or the 19th century. The plot was clear of tree planting on aerial photographs of 1946 and the orchard had therefore passed out of use in the first half of the 20th century. The banks have probably been levelled.
