The remains of parallel ridges circa 6 to 7 metres apart were visible as low earthwork banks over three plots of up to 0.2ha on digital images derived from lidar data acquired from 1998 to 2014. The visible banks fell within Plot 389, Plot 390 and Plot 386 on the Tithe map and apportionments for Clyst Hydon, listed as Little Orchard, Nursery and Long Orchard respectively. The plots remained depicted as orchards on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map, and were moderately planted on aerial photographs of 1946.
The visible earthworks are therefore interpreted as the remains of banks made for fruit tree cultivation and planting and improved orchard drainage, dating possibly from the post-medieval period or the 19th century that remain in use into the second half of the 20th century.
The two northernmost plots orchard remains moderately planted on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010 but appears less closely managed, whilst the third plot, the former Long Orchard has been cleared and turned over to pasture.
