A roughly circular pit circa 25 metres in diameter was visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthworks corresponded with a pond depicted in this location on the Tithe Map for Clyst Hydon but not the OS First Edition 25 inch map. Plot 416 was listed on the Tithe Apportionments for Clyst Hydon as Pit Lands. This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive of probable post-medieval date that pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century and was subsequently reused as a pond.
