An irregularly shaped pit circa 60 by 40 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on aerial photograph of 1946 onwards and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey, although a pond is depicted on the Tithe Map for Plymtree in this location, in plot 281, named in the apportionments as Pit Park. This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive that pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century and was subsequently utilised as a pond.
