A roughly oblong pit was visible as an earthwork circa 84 metres across on aerial photographs of 1989 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthwork did not correspond with any pit features depicted on the 19th century mapping available to the survey, but closely matched the location of a small wood or copse shown on the OS First Edition 25 inch map. This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive that pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century and was subsequently utilised as woodland.
The pond to the east, recorded as part of MDV113618, was probably part of the extractive pit earthwork.
