Former field boundaries of potential medieval date are visible as earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1948 and 1971, to the west of Coburn’s Farm, Yarcombe. The longer of the earthworks are north to south and east to west aligned, whilst the earthworks to the southeast are slightly off this alignment and may represent a different phase of land division. The longer north to south aligned field boundaries resemble medieval strip fields, although the date of the remaining field boundaries is uncertain. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any field boundaries depicted in this location on the available 19th century mapping. This supports the interpretation that the field boundaries had passed out of use prior to the late 19th century. The Parish Tithe map mosaic is incomplete here, so it is not possible to determine whether the field boundaries were extant by this time. The earthwork banks are not clearly visible on other aerial photographs after 1971, or digital images made available to the survey and their survival is unknown.
