Summary

The remains of ridges made for tree planting and improved drainage probably of post-medieval to mid-19th century date were visible as low parallel earthwork banks on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the north of North Gray Farm, Membury parish.

Plot 1143 was depicted and listed as an orchard named Higher Orchard.

The remains of parallel ridges up to 6 metres apart were visible as very subtle earthwork banks over an area of circa 0.5ha on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
The visible banks fell within a larger plot depicted as an orchard depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey. The visible earthworks are therefore interpreted as the remains of banks made for fruit tree planting and improved orchard drainage, dating possibly from the post-medieval period or the 19th century. The orchard remained very lightly planted in 2014.
