An irregularly shaped pit up to 28 by 45 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey. This might support the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive that pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century. The deepest section is depicted on the OS MasterMap as a pond, but the pit extends eastwards in as a shallower shelf.
