The visible earthwork does not correspond with any depicted pit feature but does match a plot cultivated as an copse.

The pit is visible as a shallow earthwork under woodland.

A roughly oval pit circa 75 by 40 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
Although the visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey it does fall within a plot depicted as a small wood or copse on the OS First Edition 25 inch map, named Summerleaze Pit.
This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks may be the remains of an extractive that pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century and was subsequently reused as a woodland. The pit remains under woodland on digital images derived from aerial photogaphs of 2016.
