The visible earthworks do not correspond with any depicted pit features.

Two roughly oval pits were visible as earthworks north-west of Waterhayne Cottage, Yarcombe Parish. The pit visible to the north-west of the field boundary was visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The larger pit to the south-east was visible on aerial photographs of 1971 and not the lidar derived digital images.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey. This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of extractive pits that had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century. The larger pit has possibly been in-filled.
