The visible earthwork did not correspond with any depicted pit. Light woodland or scrub was depicted in this location.

A pit was visible partly covered by trees.

An irregularly shaped pit circa 65 by 40 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey, but did partly coincide with a small area of woodland on the OS First Edition 25inch map. The pit was lightly wooded on aerial photographs of 1947 and remained obscured from view by dense tree cover on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2014.
This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive pit that had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century.
