The earthworks are located within land parcels 452 recorded as ‘Fernhill Orchard’ and 448 as ‘Flowery Hole Orchard’.

Possible tree-planting banks of former post-medieval to 19th century orchards are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards, at the former dwelling of Flowery Hole Cottage, Holmes Hill, Clayhidon. The earthworks are located within land parcels 452 recorded as ‘Fernhill Orchard’ and 448 as ‘Flowery Hole Orchard on the Parish Tithe map and Apportionment. Orchards are also depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of the late 19th century. The earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established for increased soil depth and improved drainage, are northeast to southwest aligned and occupy a combined area of approximately 0.52 hectares of southwest facing slope, within two land parcels.
