Possible tree-planting banks of a former post-medieval to 19th century orchard are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1948, northeast of Applehayes, Clayhidon. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. The earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established for increased soil depth and improved drainage, are east to west aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.27 hectares of east facing slope, within a single irregular shaped land parcel. The earthworks are not visible on aerial photographs after 1948, or digital images made available to the survey and their survival is unknown.
