Former field boundaries of potential medieval date are visible as earthwork banks and a ditch on aerial photographs of 1948 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014, to the southeast of Wiltown, Clayhidon. The former field boundaries are broadly linear in shape, northeast to southwest and northwest to southeast aligned and form part of a series of rectilinear land parcels, within an area defined by the Historic Landscape Characterisation Project as comprising ‘Medieval enclosures based on strip fields’. An earthwork ditch flanked on either side by earthwork banks may define a former trackway, extending off from Wiltown Lane. The earthworks are largely defined as field boundaries on the Parish Tithe map of 1838-48, although elements of this field system are not shown on this map, so had evidently passed out of use by the mid-19th century.
