The remains of parallel ridges up to circa 4 metres apart were visible as earthwork banks over an area of circa 0.25ha on digital images derived from lidar data captured from 1998 to 2014.
The visible banks fell within a plot depicted as an orchard on the 19th century maps available to the survey, Plot 979 listed as Jersey Orchard on the Tithe Map for Membury. The visible earthworks are therefore interpreted as the remains of banks made for fruit tree planting and improved orchard drainage, dating possibly from the post-medieval period or the 19th century. The orchard remained lightly planted in 1947 and retained a sparse cover of trees over the banks on aerial photographs of 2000.
