A linear bank almost 100 metres long and up to circa 4 metres wide is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards, between the north-east tip of Birch Wood and a former drain or leat, Yarcombe parish. The bank remains visible as a slight earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, extending to the east of the former drainage channel.
The visible bank does not correspond with any features depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map, but it is in keeping with the character of the surrounding post-medieval field pattern. The bank is therefore interpreted as the remains of a field boundary, possibly of post-medieval origin, that had passed out of use by the late 19th century.
