Pits 4-6: at the foot of the rectangular pits are three deeper settling pits. Two (Pits 5 and 6) are roughly circular with an average diameter of 12 metres while Pit 4 is sub-rectangular of 15 metres by 12 metres. The settling pits are 1.3 metres deep into which refined clay slurry was piped from Pit 3 for de-watering. These pits would originally have been lined with masonry.
